Being a Latina entrepreneur means so much more to me than just running a business. It’s about weaving together my roots, my family’s legacy, and my own dreams, all while navigating the challenges and joys of life as a military spouse, a teacher, a mom, and a wife.
Why I Started: Flexibility and Growth Through Creativity
The inspiration to start my business came from the need for flexibility. As a military spouse, we move every three years, which means stability in a traditional job can be tricky. I wanted something that could move with me, something I could learn and grow with, no matter where we were stationed.
I began with an embroidery machine,a tool that allows me to create beautiful, personalized designs for women, men, and children. But I didn’t stop there. I pushed myself to learn new techniques, including Direct to Film (DTF) designs and using a laser machine. With each new skill, my creative world expanded, allowing me to make unique products that reflect who I am and who I want to serve.
The Motivation That Drives Me
Motivation is the heartbeat of my business. As the daughter of immigrant parents who worked tirelessly to create their own success, I carry their spirit with me every day. The support of my husband and parents means everything, especially on those days when the business feels tough, and there are many of those.
Our Mexican culture teaches resilience and perseverance. It’s about staying focused on the prize and pushing through the tough days. That motivation keeps me grounded and determined to keep creating and sharing my vision.
Creating With Intention: Products Made From the Heart
Every product I create is something I would proudly wear or gift to the women in my life: my mom, aunts, daughter, and close friends. This personal connection inspires the care and love I pour into each piece. It’s not just about making products; it’s about creating meaningful gifts and expressions of love that celebrate women and our shared experiences.
Juggling Life and Business: The Real Struggle
Running a small business while balancing a full-time job as a Spanish teacher, raising two children, and being a wife is no easy task. Time management is a constant challenge, especially when I want to give my full attention to both my family and my business.
I carve out time during my days off to focus on creating, but I’m also intentional about making space for family. It’s a balancing act that requires patience, flexibility, and a lot of love.
What I Want For My Customers
I want my customers to feel excited and joyful when shopping with me. There’s something special about anticipating a package, that moment of opening a box filled with something handmade, meaningful, and designed just for you. My goal is to create that experience every time.
Advice to Latinas Dreaming of Starting Their Own Business
If you’re considering starting a business, my most important advice is to thoroughly research your market and ensure it’s something you genuinely love and are committed to. When I started, I began with embroidery, but soon found that working with laser machines and creating earrings and other designs using wood or acrylic, was where my passion truly lies.
Don’t be afraid to explore and evolve. Your business journey doesn’t have to be one straight path. Find what excites you and be open to growing into it.
What I Hope My Business Represents
Above all, I want other Latinas, daughters of immigrants, and fellow creatives to know that they are capable of anything. Success doesn’t come overnight, and sometimes it takes time to figure out your path, but with hard work, patience, and belief in yourself, you’ll find your place and your people.
Your heritage, your story, and your unique creativity are your strengths. Embrace them, and let your journey inspire others.
Thank you for letting me share my story. If you’re ready to take that leap or just need a little encouragement today, remember: you’ve got this.
